Kuala Terengganu Malaysia

Kuala Terengganu is the largest city as well as the state and royal capital of Terengganu state, Malaysia.  Kuala Terengannu is located about 500 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur on a promontory surrounded on three sides by the South China Sea. The name means "river mouth of Terengganu", in reference to the wide extension of the estuary of the river Terengganu that empties in the ocean in this point. When Kuala Terengganu was founded there was only one street called Kampung Cina (Chinatown). A family of Chinese merchants who traded between China and the Malay peninsula founded it in the 15th century. Proof of this are the Chinese families who inhabit it and the buildings hundreds of years old. It quickly became an important trading hub between the two countries. However, after the empire of Malacca conquered the city, its influence as the main port of Southeast Asia diminished since most merchants preferred to stop in Malacca which was the center of commerce between China, India and Southeast Asia. The main tourist attractions are Chinatown, Pasar Payang (Central Market), Sultan's Palace, State Museum and Duyong Pulau.
