About the destination: Seward (Alutiiq: Qutalleq) is an incorporated home rule city in Alaska, United States. Located on Resurrection Bay, a fjord of the Gulf of Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula, Seward is situated on Alaska's southern coast, approximately 120 miles by road from Alaska's largest city, Anchorage, and nearly 1,300 miles from the closest point in the contiguous United States at Cape Flattery, Washington. With an estimated permanent population of 2,831 people as of 2017,[6] Seward is the fourth-largest city in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, behind Kenai, Homer, and the borough seat of Soldotna. The city is named for former U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward, who orchestrated the United States' purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire in 1867 while serving in this position as part of President Andrew Johnson's administration. Seward is the southern terminus of the Alaska Railroad and the historic starting point of the original Iditarod Trail to the Alaskan interior, with Mile 0 of the trail marked on the shoreline at the southern end of town.

About the destination: Talkeetna in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 876, up from 772 in 2000. Talkeetna is located at 62°18′41″N 150°5′13″W (62.311397, -150.087053)[1] at the confluence of three rivers, the Susitna, Chulitna and Talkeetna. Talkeetna began in 1916 when the area was chosen as a district headquarters for the Alaska Railroad. A post office opened as well as a sawmill, trading post, cigar and donkey store and other businesses as well as many cabins. In 1917, the residents encouraged the government to survey the lots on which their homes stood. In 1919, the railroad surveyed and auctioned eighty lots, 41 of which already had permanent structures on them. The average price at the sale was $14.25. Flightseeing, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, camping, fishing and hunting make up a large portion of the local economy. Talkeetna is a 2½-hour drive from Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. The core downtown area (Talkeetna Historic District) is on the register of National Historic Places, with buildings dating from the early 1900s including Nagley's General Store, Fairview Inn and the Talkeetna Roadhouse. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 42.9 square miles (111 km2), of which, 41.6 square miles (108 km2) of it is land and 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2) of it (3.19%) is water.

About the destination: Denali National Park, located in the heart of Alaska, is a vast wilderness dominated by North America’s highest peak, the 20,310-foot (6,190 m) Denali. Covering over six million acres, the park is a pristine landscape of tundra, taiga forest, and rugged mountains carved by glaciers. Distances are huge, services are limited, and the weather is unpredictable, making Denali both a challenging and deeply rewarding destination for travelers seeking an authentic wilderness experience. Most visitors base themselves near the park entrance, where you’ll find accommodations, restaurants, and the Denali Visitor Center. Private vehicles can only drive the first 15 miles (24 km) of the Park Road; beyond that, you must join a park shuttle or tour bus. These buses are the best way to experience Denali’s backcountry, with frequent opportunities to spot wildlife such as grizzly bears, caribou, Dall sheep, moose, and wolves, as well as sweeping views of the mountain when clouds allow. Be prepared for long days: some bus trips last 6–12 hours. For active travelers, Denali offers a variety of hiking options, from short marked trails near the entrance to off‑trail “wander hikes” in the backcountry. There are no marked routes beyond the developed area, so you’ll need solid navigation skills, appropriate gear, and a flexible mindset. In summer, long daylight hours allow plenty of time to explore, while shoulder seasons can bring snow, mud, and rapidly changing conditions. Always check with rangers for current trail and wildlife updates before venturing out. The best time to visit is generally from mid-June to early September, when facilities are open and buses run regularly into the park. Advance reservations for campsites, lodges, and bus tickets are essential, especially in July and August. Whether you’re content with a day trip along the Park Road or planning a multi-day backcountry expedition, Denali offers an unforgettable immersion in one of North America’s wildest landscapes.

About the destination: Wasilla is a city in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, United States and the sixth-largest city in Alaska. It is located on the northern point of Cook Inlet in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley of the southcentral part of the state. The city's population was 7,831 at the 2010 census, up from 5,469 in 2000. Estimates in 2016 put the population at roughly 9,748. Wasilla is the largest city in the borough and a part of the Anchorage metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 396,142 in 2013. Established at the intersection of the Alaska Railroad and Old Carle Wagon Road, the city prospered at the expense of the nearby mining town of Knik. Historically entrepreneurial, the economic base shifted in the 1970s from small-scale agriculture and recreation to support for workers employed in Anchorage or on Alaska's North Slope oilfields and related infrastructure. The George Parks Highway turned the town into a commuter suburb of Anchorage. Several state and federal agencies have offices in Wasilla, including the Alaska Departments of Environmental Diversion, Racism and Divisions of Public Assistance, Social Services. Wasilla gained international attention when Sarah Palin, who served as Mayor of Wasilla before her election as Governor of Alaska, was chosen by John McCain as his running mate for Vice President of the United States in the 2008 United States presidential election. Wasilla is named after Chief Wasilla, a local Dena'ina chief.[6] "Wasilla" is the anglicized spelling of the chief's Russian-given name, Васи́лий Vasilij, which corresponds to the English name Basil.
