This short tour takes you to the enchanting west of Panama. This part of the country is full of fascinating natural beauty. Experience a picturesque mountain world, a national park with impressive flora and fauna, cloud forests and the island paradise of Bocas del Toro on this trip.
Day 1: Sixaola/Guabito - Almirante - Bocas del Toro
Border crossing from Costa Rica to Panama. In Guabito, the driver will be waiting to welcome you. You will then travel to the harbour town of Almirante. From there, a water taxi will take you to the main island of the Bocas del Toro archipelago, Isla Colón, in around 30 minutes. Bocas del Toro is a collection of numerous idyllic islands surrounded by the clear, fish-rich Caribbean Sea. On the main island of Colón, with the small town of Bocas del Toro, you will find several cosy bars, restaurants, souvenir stalls and shops. There is a relaxed, typically Caribbean atmosphere. The main attractions are the secluded beaches on the main island or on the side islands, as well as the underwater world, which is perfect for diving or snorkelling. After arrival, short transfer to the hotel in Bocas Town. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 2: Bocas del Toro - boat trip to Red Frog Beach (B)
Get to know the marvellous island world of Bocas del Toro today! You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning. The boat will then take you through small sea lanes that meander through the overgrown mangrove forests. Keep an eye out for water birds! Then it's off to Coral Cay, where the sea is calm all year round and therefore suitable for snorkellers of all ages. Local restaurants built on stilts over the water offer a variety of seafood (not included). Later, the boat trip continues to Isla Bastimentos. The island is surrounded by mangroves and is surrounded by nature and fresh air. Isla Bastimentos still consists largely of jungle and there are no roads or airstrips. For this reason, the island can only be reached by boat. Isla Bastimentos is not just for adventurers or nature lovers, as it is home to one of the most famous beaches in Bocas del Toro, the ‘Red Frog Beach’, which takes its name from the red poison dart frogs. In the interior of the island, there are many paths and trails that invite you to explore. You can also ‘just relax’ and listen to the sounds of the sea. Return to the main island in the afternoon.
Day 3: Bocas del Toro - Chiriqui Grande - Boquete (B)
After breakfast you leave the island world. The water taxi takes you back to the mainland. The approximately 45-minute boat trip takes you past mangroves to Chiriqui Grande. A driver will be waiting for you there and you will travel together to the neighbouring province of Chiriquí. Today's destination is the small mountain village of Boquete. It is located around 60 kilometres from the border with Costa Rica. Situated in the green mountain landscapes of Panama, the climate in Boquete is cooler
than in the lowlands. Lower temperatures and an almost constant drizzle, called ‘bajareque’ by the locals, give it the name ‘Valley of Eternal Spring’.
Day 4: Boquete - hike and coffee tour (B, L)
In the morning, you will be picked up at the hotel by our local guide for a 4-hour hike. During the hike, you will explore the evergreen plateaus around Boquete and discover the tropical flora and fauna of the area. The temperate, spring-like climate ensures a fertile and colourful landscape all year round, which is known beyond the country's borders for its biodiversity. This region is a paradise for birdwatchers in particular. But it is also home to many species of amphibians and mammals, including coatis, sloths and various species of monkeys. Boquete also has a great wealth of wild orchid species and many other exotic plants. After lunch, you will be whisked away into the world of coffee. Boquete is known far beyond the country's borders for the high quality of its coffee. The Geisha coffee produced in this region regularly wins awards and sells for top prices at auctions all over the world. Together with a local guide, you will visit a finca in the Boquete mountains. During a tour of the plantation, you will gain an insight into the cultivation and processing of the coffee and then, of course, be able to taste the high quality of the end product.
Day 5: Boquete - Paso Canoas (B)
You will leave Boquete in the morning. The driver will pick you up at the hotel and take you to Paso Canoas. Border crossing to Costa Rica. We wish you a pleasant onward journey.
