Discover the fascinating diversity of southern Laos. Start in Pakse and visit the impressive Wat Phou temple at the foot of Mount Phou Khao. Immerse yourself in the idyllic island world of the 4,000 Islands and marvel at the mighty Khon Phapheng and Liphi waterfalls. On the Bolaven Plateau, lush landscapes, traditional villages and aromatic Lao coffee await you before the journey ends in Pakse.

Day 1: Pakse – Champasak (L, D)

Upon arrival at Pakse Airport or at your hotel in Pakse, you will be met by your guide and drive approximately 45 minutes to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wat Phou. The impressive temple complex, dating back to the 10th century, is located at the foot of Mount Phou Khao, surrounded by lush rice fields and small waterways. The site was built by rulers of the Khmer Empire and predates the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Wat Phou was once an important religious and political centre and is now considered one of the most important sacred sites in southern Laos. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to Champasak and check in at your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 2: Champasak – 4,000 Islands – Don Khon (B, L)

After breakfast and check-out, cross the Mekong by local boat, a journey of approximately 15 minutes. Continue by road through the landscapes of southern Laos to the impressive Khon Phapheng Waterfalls, a drive of around three hours. The mighty rapids at the southern end of Laos are also known as the “Niagara of Asia” due to their impressive volume of water. Continue to Ban Nakasang, where you board a small boat into the fascinating world of the 4,000 Islands. Visit the peaceful islands of Don Khon and Don Det, which are connected by a historic bridge dating back to the French colonial period. On Don Khon, an old locomotive is a reminder of the region’s colonial past. Afterwards, take a local tuk-tuk to the impressive Liphi Waterfalls.

Lunch at a local restaurant on Don Khon. Afterwards, check in at your hotel. The evening is at leisure.

Day 3: 4,000 Islands – Don Khon – Bolaven Plateau – Pakse (B, L)

After breakfast and check-out, leave the island region by small boat and continue to the Bolaven Plateau. The region is known for its fertile soil, coffee plantations, lush forests and spectacular waterfalls.

The first highlight of the day is Tad Fane Waterfall, where two waterfalls, each around 120 metres high, plunge into a deep gorge surrounded by dense jungle. Afterwards, visit a traditional coffee café on the Bolaven Plateau. The family-run coffee farm has been operated by several generations and offers the opportunity to enjoy a selection of locally produced coffees in a peaceful garden setting. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue through the scenic landscapes of the Bolaven Plateau. Along the way, visit several villages and gain an insight into local life in the region. In the afternoon, return to Pakse and check in at your hotel. The remainder of the evening is at leisure.

Day 4: Pakse – Departure (B)

After breakfast, your journey through southern Laos comes to an end. Transfer to Pakse Airport or your hotel in Pakse for your onward journey.
