Upon arrival take a short drive to the city center and stop at That Luang, which is considered to be the most revered shrine in Laos with its golden stupa in a characteristic banana flower shape. We then continue to Patuxay which translates to “Victory Gate” is a massive concrete monument with a wide avenue leading to it similar in style to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. It was built in the 1960’s as a memorial for those who gave their lives serving their country in several wars. Finally, we proceed to Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple of the town that is still in its original form. The temple was built in 1820 near the Royal Palace in the center of town by King Anouvong, the last King of Vientiane. It is one of the very few temples that survived the destruction that came with the Siamese army that looted and burnt the city in 1827. Resume to the bank of the Mekong River for sunset and transfer to your hotel.
