Day 1: Windhoek

Please arrive at the Windhoek Truck Port at 06h45. The Go2 Traveller Transfer departs at 07:00 o'clock. The 5 hour (345km) route from Windhoek to Sesriem follows the main road south to Rehoboth before turning onto gravel. It heads south-west to Sesriem, the gateway to the famous dunes of Sossusvlei, and skirts the impressive Naukluft Mountains. Namib Desert Lodge lies 60km to the north and offers some of the most spectacular scenery the Namib has to offer. Shortly after leaving the Windhoek Truck Port you will notice a white marble obelisk on the left side of the road in the mountains. This is Heroes Acre, a war memorial built in honour of Namibia's freedom fighters, an unmistakable landmark with its towering marble obelisk that comes into view just after the police checkpoint. It was erected after Namibia's independence in 1990 to honour all those who lost their lives fighting for freedom. As the road from Windhoek winds through the mountains, you pass the Window Bridge, which frames the landscape perfectly, into the valley below. The hills are tawny in the dry mid-months and vibrant green after the summer rains. A tree-filled expanse lines the road as you enter the town of Rehoboth. The town, 87km from Windhoek, is predominantly home to the Rehoboth Basters, a proud group of people from the Cape of Good Hope, descendants of Dutch colonists and local Khoisan women. They moved north, crossed the Orange/Gariep River and settled in Rehoboth in 1871. South of Rehoboth, the route turns onto gravel towards Sesriem and continues south-west past the small settlements of Kobos, Klein Aub and Lepel, before crossing the picturesque Remhoogte Pass to reach the spectacular scenery of NamibDesert Lodge. Drive over the picturesque Remhoogte Pass to reach the spectacular setting of NamibDesert Lodge. Arrival at NamibDesert Lodge is around 12:00 o'clock.
